I travelled 1000km to be in the stadium for this afternoon's game. I brought my son, 1000km, to be in the stadium. Why were we treated like criminals?
At 4.30 I had to set my watch back by 60 years! With 15 minutes left in the game, the stadium was filled with hundreds of armed riot police. Never mind the black-suited special stewards. Obviously black suits have some connotation in Germany! Happy 60th anniversary, boys and girls!
On top of this, there was the most aggressive stewarding I've ever seen, with stewards trying to start fights in the Gegentribune! It was appalling.
So, Nazi Germany lives on. In Frankfurt of all places. It's deplorable. Whoever is responsible for this latest desecration of the German character should hang their head in shame.

Hi Jens,
Does that make sense?

A tough day at the office for Eintracht. Both sides started tentatively but the game was decided by an exquisite 8th minute goal from Ahanfouf. He received the ball in a relatively safe area on the left hand side of midfield, and just let loose with a withering shot. Pröll had no chance. In all fairness it was an exquisite goal, and well worthy to put the visitors into the first division.
Eintracht had the lion’s share of possession after that, but failed to convert this into goals. The Duisburg keeper, man of the match in my opinion, commanded his area brilliantly and kept them in the game. The Eintracht pressure finally paid off with the award of a penalty in the 35th minute. The goalkeeper was equal to Meier’s spot kick and Duisburg breathed again.
The second half was more of the same. Eventually we made changes, but I think we made them too late, Weissenberger was introduced in the 65th minute. His fresh legs brought more urgency to affairs. But there were nearly 80 minutes on the clock when Lexa and Beierle were let loose. Both players are short of match fitness, and it showed. Twenty minutes might have given them a chance to make an impact.
The substitutions left holes in our midfield that Duisberg exploited, but Pröll was imperious and shut out their few chances.
The main things to take from tonight’s performance are: that everyone played well; their keeper was inspired, and that I’d rather have our points than those of the teams below us.

Our second trip to Munich of the season and we come away with nothing again! And yet again the home side get a dodgy penalty. I can't claim to have seen the incident, it was 200m away from me at the other end. But the ref took a long time to make the call and friends who saw it on TV said it was no penalty. One of the Munich papers I saw this mornig said it was harsh.
No real analysis of the game here, I was too far away to clearly see what went on.
Munich started brightly and were gifted an early goal. The Frankfurt back four played a very high line and were caught out. TSV had two players through on Pröll and he had no chance. They had a couple of chances after that but Frankfurt came back into the game and Van Lent poached a goal at the very end of the first half, leaving it a fair 1-1 at half-time.
Five minutes into the second half, the ref gifted them the lead with the penalty. After that it was mostly Frankfurt. On another night we would have scored two or three, but Ochs was in great form and pulled off some very good saves. Same result as our trip to Unterhaching, but there was no shame in this defeat. We played them off the park, particularly in the second half and were desperately unlucky to lose.
I don't think TSV will go up. They are simply not good enough, and their run will come to an end in the next couple of weeks. Their players go down like have been shot at any hint of a tackle. They deserve nothing. Another point, the official attendance was over 20,000. Bild-Zeitung gave it as 24,000. I'd say it was only around 10,000. The stadium was empty.
The main thing is that this was one of our better performances away from home. If we keep it up we can still finish third.

This was a dreadful game. 20,000 braved freezing conditions to watch a display of muddled football that could have come from two pub teams.
It started brightly for Eintracht. A great piece of ball-control from Meier in the centre of the pitch released Cha on the right. After a powerful run Cha fired in a low cross. Two defenders converged on Jermaine Jones in the six yard box and one of them, Goldbaek, knocked it past his keeper. The only goal of the game. Both sides had chances after that, the woodwork saving Frankfurt twice in the first twenty minutes.
Van Lent and Beierle were both unavailable so Frankfurt started with what looked like a combination of Meier and Cha up front. However both quickly drifted into midfield and we ended up with a very unfocussed 4-6-0 formation. This gave Essen plenty of space and time to build their attacks. A better team would have punished us severely.
Cimen (who had been mysteriously dropped) came in for Chris at the start of the second half. It was just as well because Schur, who has become a bit of a liability recently, picked up a second yellow for a really rash challenge and walked twenty minutes into the half. Lexa had just come on but he had no chance to turn things around. Against ten men, Essen smelled blood. Pröll pulled off a succession of saves to make sure they didn’t get it.
It wasn’t all bad news. Vasowski, sporting a Roy Keane haircut to go with his No. 16 shirt was solid as ever, and also showed that he likes to get forward a bit. Jones was impressive again, initially credited with the goal, he also put in a fantastic saving tackle in his own box! Cimen looks to be a real find. Despite being dropped, he immediately looked to assert some authority on the game when he came in. Lexa now looks fit enough to start in Munich next week. Man of the Match, Pröll, was simply magnificent. Other players drifted in and out of the game, but there was simply no pattern to our play and collectively we were rubbish.
Funkel said afterwards that he was going to give the team a hard week and treat them as if they had lost. He should have a quiet moment with himself about team selection. He also played down any talk of promotion. For the record, Fürth lost in Cottbus and we are now 3 points off a promotion place. If we can get a point in Munich then it is really “game on”.
All in all, we were lucky. But you need a bit of luck from time to time. We had an “off day” today and still got three points. We can’t play as badly again, I hope.

Careful now, Schmiddy! This is German football and evidence is not welcome. It's dangerous stuff. Evidence might show that a certain club shouldn't have got a licence this season. Evidence might show that match fixing was going on in the 1. Liga, even last year.
As the DFL and the DFB will tell you – evidence is the last thing we want!

We are six points off third place with eleven games left. The form of the top seven for the last eleven games is:
1. E. Frankfurt 11 7-2-2 20-10 +10 23pts
2. Aue 11 7-1-3 19-09 +10 22pts
3. 1860 München 11 6-3-2 17-12 +5 21pts
4. Duisburg 11 6-2-3 19-11 +8 20pts
5. Fürth 11 6-1-4 23-19 +4 19pts
6. Köln 10 5-3-2 21-10 +11 18pts
7. Aachen 11 4-1-6 17-19 -2 13pts
Frankfurt, 1860 and Aue have six home games. The others have only five. We have to play 1860 and Aue away. Fürth and Duisburg have to come to fortress Frankfurt.
This one could go to the wire! Then again, maybe four teams will go up this year

One look at the pitch yesterday and you knew it was not going to be a vintage game. It looked more suited to a ploughing competition. The home team started with a strong wind behind them and forced Proll to make a couple of good saves. But that was it from Oberhausen. Vasoski in particular exerted his influence at the back, snuffing out everything and giving the midfield a platform on which to build some good moves. Jones was putting himself about to good effect and was rewarded with Eintracht’s opener on the half hour. Van Lent, who also had a good game, provided the assist.
The second half was one way traffic. With the wind behind them Eintracht were creating plenty of chances. On a better pitch this would have been a rugby score. About ten minutes into the half Huber made a surging run down the right and crossed perfectly to give van Lent a relatively easy tap-in.
After that we seemed happy enough to let them have the ball and play on the counter. Cha (who was having an indifferent game) was put though in the middle of the half and really should have scored when one on one with the keeper. Instead he shot straight him. Ten minutes later he burst through again and this time made no mistake. 3-0 to Frankfurt and game over. Meier could have made it four but the ball hit a divot and screwed away from him just as he was pulling the trigger.
Almost half the 5700 crowd who braved the arctic conditions were from Frankfurt. By the end it it was 100% Frankfurt as the Oberhausen supporters charged the exits in the last ten minutes.
Again, what really impressed me about Frankfurt was the work rate all around the pitch. Proll did what he had to. Young Huber had a great game at right back. Wiedener was struggling and Hoffman had a nightmare of a game, but Vasowski was like a one-man wall in front of our goal.
You wouldn’t think Cimen was playing his second senior game. He plays with real authority in the centre of the park. It was my first chance to see Jones and he, also, looks a real prospect. And Weissenberger was full of trickery.
So, who would have thought it back in November? We’ve gone from 14th to 4th in twelve games. There are eleven to go! Depending on tonight’s result, we will start next week’s game a mere five or six points off a promotion spot. I think that we are now in with a fighting chance of going back up. Bring on Essen!
Keep the Faith.
PS. It's six points (Duisburg won 3-1).

I haven't a clue who made it, dasabu. Somebody posted the url on the Eintracht thread on bigsoccer.com. I think he got it from one of the other forums here. If I find anything else on my cybertravels you can be sure I'll post it.
Speaking of travels, is anyone going to watch the slaughter of Oberhausen on Sunday?

Someone has put together a collage of the the ups and downs of the first half of the season at
http://www.hawk-design.goracer.de/vid/besttofhinrunde.wmv
It's 4 minutes long and 15Mb, so probably better to dowload to your hard-drive. Many thanks to whoever put it together. Enjoy!
Does anybody know of other Eintracht videos online (I'm not talking about Adi in Berlin smile:?

Yetserday's result was indeed a disaster but there are still 45 points to play for. Our problem is that when things go against us that we lack a leader on the pitch to put them right. Hence yesterday's anaemic performance.
AFAIK Bruchhagen has some money to play with, but I was disappointed that we didn't strengthen the squad more aggressively in the last month. Maybe Jones will be good enough at this level, but I'm not holding my breath.
We need more bite in midfield, Schur and Chris are just not consistent enough. KSC's first two goals came from complete lack of concentration on our part.
So I wouldn't write this season off yet. A win on Friday will keep us in the hunt for a promotion spot. The Köln match is a cup final now.

The final score was a fair relection on the effort put in by Frankfurt since the winter break. A tentative start showed that Burghausen were not here just to make up the numbers. It was nervous stuff with Frankfurt needing three points to sure of going up. Burghausen had a couple of half-hearted chances and Van Lent spurned a couple for Frankfurt at the other end. On the quarter hour Cha made a powerful crossfield run that split open the visitors’ defence. He slid the ball to Benjamin Köhler who ran in and rifled home from 10 metres.
This took the fight out of Burghausen. Their players started to hit the deck with alarming regularity. They didn’t look like they had trained all week. Indeed, they had all their subsititutes used up on 55 minutes.
The second half started pretty much the same as the first, with Eintracht looking to wrap up the points and Burghausen looking not to be embarrassed. They came close a couple of times in the early exchanges and Cha had a good effort blocked.
On 65 minutes Frankfurt got a free for an innocuous looking foul about 25 metres out. Meier beat the wall and gave the Wacker keeper no chance. That was the decisive strike and Frankfurt had merely to play out the remaining 25 minutes to gain promotion.
The celebrations of Frankfurt supporters and the players were quickly dampened by the sudden appearance of hundreds of riot police in full battle dress. Whose idea was that?
On the pitch Cimen, Beierle and Weissenberger were given a run out. Fittingly, Beierle profitted from a great run by Köhler to slot home Frankfurt’s last goal in the second division. It was the last real kick of the game. It should have been the cue for unbounded celebration. Instead the extremely aggressive stewarding and policing lead to violent scenes on the terrace behind the goal.
In order to survive next season Frankfurt will need to strengthen their squad of players. They will also need to appoint an event manager who has, at the very least, a vague idea of how to run a football match. On yesterday’s evidence FIFA should look long and hard at Frankfurt as a host for World Cup games.
