I'm kind of optimistic about the Dortmund game. One of Funkel's great strengths is his ability to galvanise the dressing room. We've had too many losses on the bounce for him not to have been working really hard on motivation and concentration this week. So with a capacity crowd today I'd be hopeful of, at least, a good performance.

Having said all that, I don't think we'll find any consistency until Jermaine Jones or Chris returns. We're just too toothless in midfield without either of them. Huggel is a poser and Fink strikes me as a failed centre half. Maybe we'd be better off moving Vassi into midfield. He has good vision and he distrbutes well.  He has a very good motor and could cover the pitch. Anything is worth a try, you couldn't disimprove on our performance in central midfield at the moment.

A fantastic game for the neutral and Bochum fans tonight. It's two losses in a row, but I think our 10-man performance in the second half gives cause for a lot of hope. I think we were unlucky not to get a point tonight.
#
Okay, it was only our first away win, but we're up to seventh!

It should also give us confidence in the next two games, both of which are eminently winable.

I'll put my head on the block and say I can't see UEFA allowing it to happen. Nothing is allowed to compete with the Champions League TV franchise.

We had to play Hamburg forty hours after playing Brondby away in the last round.

Having said that I'd have a better chance of getting to the game if it's on the Wednesday.

Hi GeordieBoy,

The match has a late kick off and you're arriving early in the afternoon? If that's the case then SGE77 is dead right. Get an S-Bahn to the main station and have a gargle in O'Reilly's. The city centre has very few bars and in the nightlife areas, nothing opens before six or so.

From there you can either get a tram (No.21) or an S-Bahn to the Waldstadion. After the game head, back into the main station, your match ticket includes free public transport, BTW. If you want to sample a bit of traditional Frankfurt nightlife, it's probably easier and cheaper to get a taxi from there to Alt Sachsenhausen.

You'll need to get a taxi to the airport as public transport shuts down early in Franfurt. Luckily the bars don't! Hope yiz enjoy yourselves.

This is one really tough group. The only good thing for us is that the other teams will be taking points off each other as well, and the first three go through - so we have a fighting chance of making the last 32.

Anyway, it's loads more fun than slumming it around the bottom of the 2. Liga, which is where we were only two short years ago.

Happy days!

Spoilsport :-p

I'd forgotten that. We'll revisit this on Sunday.

After receiving a couple of drunken SMS from Copenhagen, a question struck me: have we ever gone into October unbeaten before?

I'm sure I can trawl through Kicker and then ask loads of sore heads when they wake up tomorrow afternoon, but maybe one of you know the answer.

Have we ever gone into October unbeaten before?

For the fanatic???

I'm just back from a really shit game in Monaghan, think Unterhaching and add some cows and horses!

Now I'll just have to drink a glass of wine while this is downloading and bring the laptop to bed.

Thanks again.

You can also join the Fanabteilung as an international member, a great way of staying part of the club for only 2 yoyos a month!

Best of luck with the atrocious beer!

We lost, but the stadium looks fantastic now that it is finished.

Are you Quebecois? And do you have real football over there? I'm not talking about fat guys with helmets waiting for the advertising to end before a ball gets kicked and they all fall on top of each other.

Nach bhfuil Gaeilgeoir ar bith eile anseo chun deireadh a chur leis an gcacamas seo?

Cá bhfuil na monatóirí a sheasann go tréan ar a leithéid agus é déanta tri mheán na Gearmáinse sa chuid eile den fhóram?

Yep! We're taking a very depleted squad to Wolfsburg. Looks like Funkel won't have much choice in his selection tomorrow. He'll just have to play whoever's available.

Nikolov faces a fitness test in the morning.

Now that Jones has been hit with a three match ban, maybe it's time to give Cimen a chance. He is a fine young player who I think can easily make the step up to the top flight. I'd be inclined to stick with two up front with question marks over Meier and van Lent. I don't think there is anything to be lost by playing Weißenberger. I'd like to see Copado get a run as well, but maybe van Lent needed the Munich game and will improve for it.

Any other opinions?
