The second half was one way traffic. With the wind behind them Eintracht were creating plenty of chances. On a better pitch this would have been a rugby score. About ten minutes into the half Huber made a surging run down the right and crossed perfectly to give van Lent a relatively easy tap-in.
After that we seemed happy enough to let them have the ball and play on the counter. Cha (who was having an indifferent game) was put though in the middle of the half and really should have scored when one on one with the keeper. Instead he shot straight him. Ten minutes later he burst through again and this time made no mistake. 3-0 to Frankfurt and game over. Meier could have made it four but the ball hit a divot and screwed away from him just as he was pulling the trigger.
Almost half the 5700 crowd who braved the arctic conditions were from Frankfurt. By the end it it was 100% Frankfurt as the Oberhausen supporters charged the exits in the last ten minutes.
Again, what really impressed me about Frankfurt was the work rate all around the pitch. Proll did what he had to. Young Huber had a great game at right back. Wiedener was struggling and Hoffman had a nightmare of a game, but Vasowski was like a one-man wall in front of our goal.
You wouldn’t think Cimen was playing his second senior game. He plays with real authority in the centre of the park. It was my first chance to see Jones and he, also, looks a real prospect. And Weissenberger was full of trickery.
So, who would have thought it back in November? We’ve gone from 14th to 4th in twelve games. There are eleven to go! Depending on tonight’s result, we will start next week’s game a mere five or six points off a promotion spot. I think that we are now in with a fighting chance of going back up. Bring on Essen!
Keep the Faith.
Lot's of nice fifth yellow cards tonight!
