So as of today Funkel's last day as trainer for the Eintracht Frankfurt will be the last home game of the season. My opinion is it is about time. Funkel did great at building the team back up when we were at the lowest but he does not bring anything new to the team and I think it is time for a bit of fresh air. I do thank him for the time he gave us as our trainer but I am now looking forward to see who our new trainer will be.
I will be the first to admit I was wrong when Eintracht make it into the top 10 next season, but I'll also be one of the first to point out that I never joined in the "Funkel raus," and "Ciao" chanting when the mob call for the next trainers head! Sempre Fedele!
I agree with Tim's comments, it was just a time for a change. Plain and simple, there is no question that he did an adequate job but there are always expectations in anything that we do, whether it be in sport or in any other part of ours lives. It is is not working then a change is needed and I am sure that 3 out of 4 years battling relagation is not a successfull attempt. The next coach, Micheal Skibbe ????, will also be held to this standard as all coaches around the world do.
Football is a results driven sport/business and eintracht can do better in competing in the Bundesliga not just with the bottom third but with the Bayerns, Hamburg, Schalkes, etc...

yeah right, especially with half the budget.. i bet you - any other manager would have been relegated last season, no matter how big or small the name. why do people forget all the time that not too long ago we were a division down?
I prefer the team to become established in the league step by step, other than rising fast, and falling deep after.
it will be interesting to see what a new manager brings in and how he copes. the strength of the squad is still the same, although it might go up when the experienced injured players rejoin the squad and add quality.
but i do not expect anything else than another mid table season.
