Who is... Frankfurt loan signing Guillermo Varela?

I didn't really make up my mind about the squad (simply because I can't). For sure our players were too slow and we may well have improved under that aspect. On the other hand many of the new guys are rather inexperienced and I can't say a word about their actual technique or skills at all. But I'm confident, that we will manage to somehow stable our defence and stuff that wide space we have had between our centre-backs and the midfield; Hasebe will hopefully play where he belongs and where he's best, Mascarell is said to be a good deep-lying playmaker and should hence being able to fill that gap.
I also expect our squad to study different systems and vary according to the needs of each and any opponent so I see the upcoming year with better hopes than the last one (which already in advance I was rather sceptical as I didn't confide much in Veh).
About the transfers? Well, I don't know them much but I suppose Varela (pure prejudice, I know) as a uruguayan player should be rather physically strong and technically fair so he'll hopefully manage to both, close his side in the defensive work and being able to arm attacks. Mascarell the same (despite the fact, that I have absolutely no prejudices about the physical constitution of tinerfenos). Moreover I still see Gacinovic and Fabián as "new players" - both should bring us more tranquility in ball-possession as they are capable of winning a one on one-situation and can well "open the field" through smart passes and thence taking advantage of our new-won speed through Rebic, Tawatha or Blum.
Though I'm a bit sceptical about our heading-skills as we lost Zambrano and (at least temporarilly) Russ

Awesome win! At least we get to end this season on a positive note.
Looks like it's going to be a really tough battle next week.
Meanwhile, Hradecky has been praised by Der Spiegel.

Loose translation (feel free to correct):
"If one measures the performance of goalkeepers on a statistical basis, then the keepers from relegation candidates often look better than those of the top teams. This is because excellent defensive teams such as Bayern Munich usually do not allow enemy attacks. Hoffenheim, however conceded per game on average more than twice as many shots as Munich. This provides the gatekeepers of these clubs the opportunity to excel. The best of them was Frankfurt's Lukas Hradecky. Especially in the three consecutive victories at the end of the season, the Finn grew beyond himself."

yeah, it's gonna be nasty.
And please, footballgod (either Meier or whoever feels responsible), let's win this fight and keep Eintracht in the first division.
It would be too sad for Hradecky to go down again just hours after that icehockey-loss yesterday.

omg_87 schrieb:SGE really needs Meier to secure a spot in the 1. Bundesliga. They can't stay on their heels against a lesser opponent. I can understand that against €Buyern and BVB, but it shouldn't become a habit. Against Bremen it was a big mistake.
There's a saying in Frankfurt "Keine Feier ohne Meier" which means no party without (Alex) Meier-
That was true once more today. He'll be back for the games against Nuremberg, so there's still a chance
for a party

Fortunately later that day our coach Kovac gave the all-clear so I suppose Hradecky will be on the pitch against Dortmund
Bild.de has a picture of Hradecky on the training grounds with an ice pack on his ankle. I hope it's nothing serious...
Bremen crushed Stuttgart last night so now the table runs from the bottom up Hannover, Stuttgart, SGE, Bremen and Darmstadt. SGE and Stuttgart both have 33 points but SGE is ahead because of goal difference. Bremen has 34 points, Darmstadt 35. The remaing two matchdays look like this:
SGE v BVB
Köln v Bremen
Stuttgart v Mainz
Hertha Berlin v Darmstadt
Bremen v SGE
Wolfsburg v Stuttgart
Darmstadt v Gladbach
SGE v BVB

arytsy schrieb:not likely to be kept up. The authorities obviously tried to threaten Frankfurt supporters by announcing that ban - but as fans went to court it's not going to persist, I suppose.
What's the situation with the security issues in Darmstadt? Is there really going to be a ban of SGE jerseys in the city center?
Darm match is as much of a must win as Mainz. I have a feeling that if the guys can win this one, then the team will fight the rest of the way to avoid relegation. BVB is tough, but I'm hoping that SGE goes into that game after a good win and that BVB lacks focus since Buyern has probably already cemented the BL title.

Lots of fresh talent in the team, let's hope it'll all work out for the best.
