As far as I am concerned we have an equally good (maybe even better) team than at the beginning of last season 2003/04. Considering however that we are now playing in the 2nd division as opposed to the 1st league last year, is certainly very promising.
I strongly believe that we have very good chances to rejoin the premier league next year. The main competitors amongst Frankfurt to hold ranks 1 to 3 at the end of the season are: Köln, 1860 München, Cottbus, maybe Aachen and probably a surprise team.
The Forum is providing a very careful optimism. The newcomers certainly seem very promising, but since no previous records are available, no clear picture can be made. Many Forum members suggest to wait and observe the first 4-5 games before making any forecasts.
Greetings to Belgium.

Unfortunately Erwin Skela has left the Club. It seemed he had some offers from Leverkusen and Hamburg which at the end did not materialize. During that time he tried to push Eintracht for more money. At the end Frankfurt found some seemingly competent alternatives. Hamburg and Leverkusen lost interest abd truned him down. As it stands now, Skela is desperately for a new club. Rumors say that he presented himself to Gent and some other 2nd division clubs in Germany.
For all those who want to see the building progress of the new stadium, follow this link.

I thought it is again time for a News Update.
The chapter “Chris” is finally closed. Essentially he just refused to rejoin the club after his vacation and is now hoping for his dismissal. But Bruchhagen is far from releasing him with the compliments of Eintracht. If Chris wants to leave, he better find a club to pay him out, otherwise the Lawyer is knocking at his door. The only thing that still binds Eintracht and Chris is a contract until 2005.
The Fans are very sad about his departure and regret the fashion he left.
------------------------
Tired or what? In another test match on July 20th Eintracht managed only a 1:0 (1:0) against Regional League Club “Germania Ober-Roden”. To the surprise of the 2500 spectators “Ober-Roden” dominated the match almost throughout the 90 minutes. Only Beierle’s goal in the 21st minutes saved the honour of Eintracht. Coach Funkel commented this performance by saying that squad seemed rather tired after the tough training of the past days.
------------------------
After long debates and discussions, Markus Kreuz has finally left the Eagles for Second Division Club “Rot Weiss Erfurt”. Good luck to him.
------------------------
The stadium is progressing very well these days. The big lift is about to be completed and the lawn is currently being laid.
Best regards

To get back to the “Showcase Club” point.
German football is currently going through some hard times. The main issue here is that the country is missing talents, or better said those who produce talents.
I understand if a club needs to ensure a successful season. No one is willing to take a risk and therefore (and since local talents are rare) the clubs search elsewhere.
Now let’s assume Frankfurt, with its 90% German players, is successful and continues its way to the premier league. As a result I would see that the National Team could predominantly consist of players from our Eintracht. Isn’t that a healthy development?
I see a bright future for the Eagles. They will set new standards in the Bundesliga.
I am aware that this point may not necessarily correspond to the topic of this thread, but I thought it may be of interest.

Just to convey the general mood from the forum.
It seems that the Eintracht forum is beginning to look into the future with a great deal of optimism. It took us all a long time to digest the last season. So many defeats, indeed, the last season was painful.
But I could sense now new confidence as to what the new season will bring along. I think that the Leverkusen match last Friday gave the fans some hope. The fans are rather pleased with the newcomers, especially the young ones and even with the coach.
In my opinion, Eintracht Frankfurt has the potential to become the showcase of the entire Bundesliga. Why? Simply because the Club is building more and more on young German talents (this is by no means a nationalistic practice). A sports club has a responsibility towards local talents. I must add however, that Eintracht was more or less pushed into this policy of local hires. But yet again, why not?
The fact that the Eintracht Management is set on a policy of “buying smart” pleases the fans. The fans are looking in desperation into the past when the Club wasted huge sums of money on so called talents whom at the end turned out to be useless.
Better days are coming and Bundesliga “ONE”, get ready, we will be back!
Regards

Frankfurt – Leverkusen 2:2 (2:1)
In another test match yesterday evening against Beyer Leverkusen, Frankfurt is about to conclude the preparation phase to the start of the season.
In an unspectacular match Frankfurt was able to make a rather positive impression against runner up of the season 2003/04 of the premier league. After a slow start the spectators were rewarded with 2 goals by newcomer Alex Meier. It was indeed an interesting and promising start by the youngster who in fact substituted midfield newcomer Weissenberger. But it is quite reassuring to see that the squad may present more than one talent for one position. It is therefore to be expected that the “Skela” case is now closed.
Leverkusen reduced the gap to 2:1 in the 41st minute. Ironically it was scored by the Frankfurter (residential as well as formerly active for the club) Jermaine Jones. In less than a minute from the start of the second half Berbartov equalized to final score of 2:2.
On observation with our team was the Finnish National Team Player Markus Heikkinen. Coach Funkel was pleased with his as well as the entire teams performance.
I personally believe that today we have, in principal, seen the regular team of the season 2004/05.
Some questions however were still left unanswered. What is happening to Kreuz? Will he stay or will he transfer to “Erfurt”? Who will be our number “1”? Pröll or Nikolov?
Let’s wait and see.

I’ve started a little survey in german forum and asked the fans what their feeling is where the Eagles will rank at the end of the season.
The result was:
Thread statistics:
Total clicks: 672
Answers: 25
Votes: 15
Voting:
Progression to the Bundesliga: 8
2nd league: 5
Drop down to the regional league: 0
Unusable votes: 2
What I was able to sense is that a lot of fans are hopeful and yet skeptical. Some mentioned their reservation to vote and observe the first 4 to 5 games before taking any decisions. So lets wait and see.
Hope that this information is interesting.
Feel free to add your vote. It's never too late.
